  • Partnership approach to catchment management

Due to the continuing constraints of funding for flood risk maintenance and the need to deliver a wide range of benefits within a catchment, a Partnership Strategy Group sponsored by Anglian RFCC are developing the Partnership Approach to Catchment Management.

This project has taken the unique step of providing a framework assessment to determine shared key delivery objectives within a catchment that can be used by RMAs and other local delivery partners including communities.  This is achieved by establishing partnership working at a catchment or sub catchment level to develop a holistic flood risk understanding and nurture new relationships and projects with environmental, recreational, amenity and economic goals. The framework has developed assessment tools to help carry out catchment assessments.  These include a decision making flow chart, guidance document and GIS mapping.  These tools are currently being tested using five pilot catchments spread around the Anglian Region, each with their own specific characteristics to test the approach. Strong partnership engagement with a broad range of stakeholders is illustrating how current practices need to be done differently, who is best place to undertake works, efficiencies that can be gained and helping to identify and secure an extensive range of funding options.
