Public and private sector partnership working to deliver the Bacton sandscaping project
The Bacton Walcott Coastal management scheme is a UK first in trialling the Dutch sand engine; approach to protecting nationally important U.K. infrastructure and nearby vulnerable coastal communities in Norfolk. Details of the proposed technical approach will be presented. This paper will explore how the project has moved from being an interesting idea to a likely reality. It has necessitated building new and trusting relationships between numerous private and public sector organisations. Everyone involved in the project team has had a crucial role in selling the unique opportunity that this approach brings to the highest level within their organisations.
Innovative and lateral thinking has been fundamental in addressing political expectation, funding challenge and local aspirations, during the development of this project. The paper will be jointly presented by members of the team, reflecting the shared ownership of the challenges and risks that projects such as these have to address. A selection of the challenges encountered and how they were overcome through collaboration will be presented.
