  • How to deliver live flood warnings for citizens in technically unsophisticated territories

Shoothill created FloodAlerts in 2012 the UKs first map-based flood alerting system and graphical representation of the Environment Agency, NRW and SEPA live flood warnings, which was later adopted by the EA itself, the  BBC, The AA, Channel 4 and many other organisations.  The company also launched FloodAlerts on Facebook, winner of the Guardian Award for Innovation, and the world’s first live Facebook flood warning tool, now adopted by the EA and NRW.  Shoothill also runs @FloodAlerts on Twitter for the whole of the mainland UK.

However, these technologies chiefly rely on sophisticated flood modelling previously carried out by the responsible Agency coupled with refined flood forecasting capabilities.  So how can countries lacking such models and organisations, still issue live flood alerts to their citizens?

In this session, Shoothill will address these issues, and demonstrate a new flood warning system recently developed by the company that can be used by any country to instantly alert end users via a map based system, even when no previous flood modelling has taken place.
