Rachael Hill MBE, National Flood & Coastal Risk Manager, Environment Agency

Rachael has worked in water management for 28 years and now leads a national team of technical specialists focused on FCRM on the coast and in the countryside.  She works closely with local operational staff, coastal authorities and internal drainage boards to support them in the delivery of FCRM policy and outcomes.

Rachael spent the first 10 years of her career as a conservation officer and has provided ecological and flood resilience advice on numerous river restoration projects and riverside developments, particularly on the Thames and tributaries in London.  She moved into FCRM in 2000 and since then has worked on the Thames Estuary 2100 plan, development and flood risk planning policy, and a number of post flood action plans following major flood events in Somerset (2013/14) and Cumbria and Yorkshire (2015/16).
