Flood Risk Manager HS2 Ltd, Atkins Speaking On: Day 2 (21st March)
Download Presentation

How HS2 is setting new standards for resilience to flooding and using partnership working to deliver flood risk management benefits

The presentation will demonstrate how Atkins in their Client side role for HS2 have been working in partnership with the Environment Agency to set new standards for the resilience of critical infrastructure to flooding. The presentation will also outline how through partnership working HS2 could support Environment Agency schemes to reduce flood risk to existing property. An example of this is where HS2 have provided additional flood storage in their scheme to offset the impact of upstream flood walls proposed by the Environment Agency to reduce the risk of flooding to existing property. Allowing delivery of a scheme that was previously unfeasible due to the cost of purchasing land to provide the required flood storage. The presentation will also describe how HS2 has worked in partnership with the Environment Agency, local authorities and developers to identify how partnership delivery of a reduction in flood risk could help to unlock key development sites to stimulate economic growth. Overall this presentation will provide evidence on how major infrastructure projects can set new standards for resilience to flooding and deliver flood risk management benefits to protect existing property and unlock development sites to stimulate the UK economy
