Developing the Northumbria integrated drainage partnership
In the North East we have implemented an innovative partnership working initiative, with the Environment Agency, Northumbrian Water Group and Lead Local Flood Authorities working closely together. Collectively we have established the Northumbria Integrated Drainage Partnership, which, through a weighted prioritisation process and jointly sponsored studies, has brought forward a number of integrated flood risk schemes that tackle multiple mechanisms of flooding at communities across the North East. In early 2017 the partnership agreed to create an Integrated Flood Programme Coordinator, jointly funded by the Environment Agency, Northumbrian Water and the Regional Flood and Coastal Committee. This post works across all partners to utilise their existing data to bring together an 8 to 10 year programme of joint studies, business case development and implementation. In addition, the role is tasked to identify other partners for the schemes, so having developed a draft programme the role is actively engaging with others such as catchment partnerships to identify opportunities to work with others, to deliver efficiencies or improved environmental benefits.
The presentation will highlight the benefits of this partnership initiative and the Integrated Flood Programme Co-ordinator, believed to be the first role of its type in the country.
